Ongside him All That You Leave Behind is a poignant coming of age story that offers a raw and honest glimpse into the multilayered relationshipbetween a daughter and a father Through this lens Erin comes to understand her own workplace missteps existential crises and relationship fails While daughter and father bond over their mutual addictions and challenges with sobriety it is their powerful sense of work and family that comes to ultimately define them This uniue combination of Erin Lee Carrs earnest prose and her fathers meaningful words offers a compelling read that shows us what it means to be vulnerable and lost supported and found It is a window into love with all of its fierceness and frustrationsThank you Erin for this beautiful book Now I am going to steal all of your fathers remarkable advice and tell my kids I thought of itJudd Apat. I bought this book after hearing Erin Carr interviewed on NPR and because I loved her father's Night of the GunThe book is well written one or two too many toothy grins however but so much of it is verbatim David Carr emails and texts that she should've given him credit as co author It's not clear that her selections show him in a fair and balanced light no matter how wonderful she says she thinks he isI sympathize w her addiction but her constant reliance upon her father for support ideas coaching etc etc which may or may not be a by product of that made reading the book somewhat tiresome

So a 30 or so year old woman decides to write a memoir HuhNormally this would be preposterous who cares what a 30 year old has to sayWhat sets this book apart is that 1 her father was an accomplished journalist and 2 she's popular with certain celebrities which is partly related to point 1 supraContrast this with other legitimate memoirs such as that of AA Gill who wrote his memoir shortly before his death at an advanced age He had things to tell us to teach us; he lived an amazing life and really suffered with alcoholism over a non trivial span of time Erin Lee Carr's dad did in fact write his own memoir so she cannot purport to act as his proxy She claims to have experience with alcoholism but parsing the exaggeration it seems like a few weekendsBasically Erin Lee Carr is a nepotist and a fraud who happens to have cool friends comedians affirmative action scholars etcThis book is short because the author has not lived She can make all of the celebrity pals she wants; their specious adulation is not really living Why is she writing about herself this early Is she planning seuels every decadeCome on No thanks
