Star of PersiaIn an effort to complete a war his father had planned to win King Xerxes calls every governor satrap and official in his vast kingdom to his palace in Susa to strategize and feast When they finally leave he decides on oneweek of frivolity which ends in the banishment of his favorite wife something he never intended to do But For years I have been hoping that Jill would write a book about ueen Esther and it does not disappoint I had never really considered this tale from ueen Vashti's perspective yet this is where the book begins With the addition of both cultural and context one could easily consider Vashti an unsung hero of the Bible; protecting her husband from being undone by his own foolishness As always what I love most about Jill's stories is that they feel plausible Ultimately these are works of fiction yet I know the uality of care and scholarship she bring to each effort They continue to be a welcome adjunct to my ongoing Bible study Thank you sister Smith for adding depth heart and warmth to a beloved and familiar story Ashe
