I'm a middle aged mom of young girls and part of Gen X I started the party late having my 2nd at 40 Since this is a book with the first word of mom and not grandma I anticipated the uestions being geared to my generation at the very least or youngerWhat I found in this book instead was many uestions that had appeal to my mother's generation There were uestions about my experience at a box social of using an out house where I was when JFK was shot not born experiences of WWII or Vietnam NONE of this has any relevance to meI also found many topics were missing entirely My generation though perhaps not moms in their 20's lived through New Year's Eve of 1999 Y2K 911 No mention of any of that was in there Also lacking were uestions on technology like how old were you when you got your first cell phone email address what was life like before the internet preference to Apple or Android Also lacking were uestions about college where you went your major your life after why not And then the important personal uestions Like for us moms when did we reach puberty Have we had breast cancer Important health uestions that should be made known to our kids in case we aren't around to tell them later Basic stuff too like what color your eyes are are you left or right handed your adult height and weight Stuff that I don't know about my grandmothers and wish that I knewAnother issue the book specifically asks if my family observe the birth of Jesus at Christmas While this is a perfectly fine uestion for many this book is not described as being specifically Christian There are many moms who are not this specific religion and perhaps would find a better match in a different bookIn the end I took uestions from this book and put them into a word document then add a ton of my own I organized it based on topic instead of randomly putting uestions of different themes together I added uestions about political affiliation thoughts on big topics of the day like gun control and women's rights 90% of the uestions are my ownThe reality is this book is far too small to provide any space for any meaningful descriptions of our life Beyond that paper products burn and having lost it all in a fire before I want to be able to back it up digitally so that I know I don't loose it if the worst happens againThis is a nice idea for a book but the result is not as good as I had hoped However it did provide a starting point for developing my own uestion list on my computer With a little thought I think most people could easily come up with a list of their own too

An amazing gift my mom has had so much fun filling it out and calling up family members to talk about stories Same thing happened on Christmas morning with my boyfriends mom The calendar part is a bit unnecessary but I understand why some might utilize it However we all wished the boxes were bigger so paper might need to be added in some places No matter how silly some of the uestions are if you no longer have those people no uestion is really too silly Plus these can be passed down to other generations
