Water from an Ancient Well Celtic Spirituality for Modern LifeUsing story scripture reflection and prayer this book offers readers a taste of the living water that refreshed the ancient Celts The author invites readers to imitate the Celtic saints who were aware of God as a living presence in everybody and everything This ancient perspective gives radical new alternatives to modern faith practices ones that are both challenging and constructively positive This is a Christianity big enough to embrace the entire world I don't give many five stars but Water From An Ancient Well is the best book on Celtic Christianity I've read so farWater From An Ancient Well contains 15 essays about the ancient Celtic Christians which may be read in any order Each chapter contains scripture a Celtic story about a saint theology history and practical application Water From An Ancient Well describes the Celts culture beliefs and how they were uniue amongst ChristiansThe Celts hailed from Ireland Scotland Brittany Wales and Iona When they were converted to Christianity they were allowed to hold on to some of their pagan roots and they believed that Christianity fulfilled their former pagan and druidic beliefs The Celts had a deep reverence for nature and believed that God was everywhere including nature They loved scripture which they interpreted as epic stories of heroismThe Celts did not separate the mundane from the spiritual but infused every daily activity with prayer Thus everything they did was sanctified as a sacred act They balanced solitude with service and found their solitude was intimately connected to the natural world The Celts are widely known for a love of poetry and singing knotwork stone solar crosses illuminated Bibles and monastic communitiesI thoroughly enjoyed this book and will reference it often I highly recommend it for the serious seeker as well as the curious

There are a multitude of uotations from many sources but there's no mention of the Eucharist A far superior book is The Solace of Fierce Landscapes by Belden Lane Professor Lane doesn't mention the words Celt or Celtic once yet he really gets to the heart of the matter and really understands his sources
