The most impressive aspect at least for me of this superlative novel was the sense of a vulnerable human caught between the ruthless machinations of his employers and their opponents The central character is certainly resourceful but no superman He makes mistakes and the sense of his attempts to escape both from those and from the near impossible situations that the careless handling by his bosses places him in pervades the story in a way that feels thoroughly authentic This is no assemblage of cliches; this is carefully researched thoroughly crafted sensitive fiction that easily matches or beats the best of its genre

Sea of Spies is uite well written and the action moves along uite briskly Whether the plot is realistic is a different matter entirely I have serious doubts whether anyone let alone a British spy posing as an Irish journalist would be able to conduct a grand tour of Central Europe following the trail of chromiumBut this is an easy undemanding read so ideal for rainy locked down days when there's nothing else to do but read

Got this super cheap from Kindle This is the second book I have read from this author and will likely read another if I can get it cheap The writing is good not great and the stories move well with an interesting plot line This one is a bit dark but probably this is close to the reality of the setting which I appreciate
