ChickenhawkI read this as a young pilot about to embark on a career flying military helicopters It should have put me off for life Robert Mason tells a gripping account of the relentless courage and heroism amidst the insanity of the Vietnam war The final few pages are the most shocking I have read in any book Tim Peake. Pulling no punches this gripping and very readable account graphically depicts one man s training as a helicopter pilot and subseuent war experience in Vietnam The author is a naturally talented writer and there is no getting bogged down in superfluous technical detail this story is a human one of how he and his comrades played a very visible and strategically important role in supporting ground troops He makes few overtly political comments but his disillusionment uickly becomes clear as he realises how little the ordinary Vietnamese seemed to want him and his comrades in their country at all But regardless of the politics there is no doubting the bravery of these airmen or the price they paid in various ways
