The Trials of Sherlock HolmesIt is a of Sherlock Epub #217 cold London morning in and the discovery of a dead man in an abandoned house plunges Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson into a series of eight trying cases that will The Trials PDF or test the friendship of the two companions and threaten the safety of the country itself From a staged murder to an i. This welcome volume is a series of eight traditional and intertwined Holmes tales although the connection isn t apparent at first The stories build from seemingly separate investigations to a greater mystery spiraling out of one of Holmes and Watson s past cases a tragic but seemingly finished incident from the original Canon that has come back to haunt themThe notion of having related cases twisted together as part of a larger whole in this manner is a Sherlockian tradition of sorts In The Red Triangle by Arthur Morrison all of the separate cases are actually part of a larger overall plot The Red Triangle originally presented as a Martin Hewitt adventure was later revised to become a Holmes book as part of Sherlock Holmes in Montague Street This book s title The Trials of Sherlock Holmes is uite reminiscent of the three so far Big Finish audio collections by Jonathan Barnes that also consist of seemingly separate cases that are linked over time These are The Judgement of Sherlock Holmes The Ordeal of Sherlock Holmes and The Sacrifice of Sherlock Holmes It is only through Watson s initial Preface written in 1895 that we realize these separate narratives are all part of one large multi year investigation When the book begins in late 1887 with The Hanging Man Holmes and Watson are called by Scotland Yard to investigate a murder Yet there is something that Holmes sees that suggests there may be to the plot The adventures continue through 1888 with some cases making the connection to the shadowy figure behind things very obvious while others have much subtle clues Eventually Holmes realizes that he s being manipulated and he and Watson find themselves in uite a bit of danger before the matter is resolved in The Bloomsbury Scandal a case mentioned in Watson s initial introduction as being the culmination of the matterHaving visited London on three intense Holmes pilgrimages I appreciated Moffett s use of real locations some of them off the usual beaten tourist path I did take issue with a few chronological matters specifically related to the dates of Watson s marriage and move from Baker Street and I disagree that there was a kitchen off the sitting room where Holmes conducted his chemical experiments I m afraid that this is somehow influenced by that abominable and most terrible show the BBC Sherlock However except for these few instances which I recorded in my notes the book was overall uite excellent and I cannot wait to see what Mr Moffett pulls next from Watson s Tin Dispatch Box Well done

Mpossible suicide the theft of a national document to the disappearance of an entire family Trials of Sherlock MOBI #245 Londons foremost consulting detective and his faithful companion must seek out the clues and venture into the very heart of each mystery All the while a sinister force lurking amid the busy streets of London s. The mysteries here are satisfying They also all tie together into one unified puzzle pretty nicelyIf you are a fan of the BBC series Sherlock you will probably like this It s got the Victorian London setting of the canonical stories but I found the characterizations to be very much informed by the BBC show The Holmes in this book is cheeky p 119 and mischievous p 145 and other anachronisms such as a kitchen in the 221B apartment also seem derived from the show rather than the bookIn the end I found this book a fun way to pass the time Just right for a little light summer reading
