St Chief of MI6 who didnt come to the role via the traditional public school and Oxbridge route Oldfield was the voice of British Intelligence in Washington at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis and the assassination of JFK and was largely responsible for keeping the UK out of the Vietnam War Working his wa A good yarn but I lost interest about two thirds of the way through Given the fact that Sir Maurice was involved in a highly secret world it covers the operations on going during his career I have no reference to say whether we're getting the whole truth who can? but a couple of yarns didn't ring true eg the one about the fighter pilot ''returning from a mission'' who force landed in the Peak District in WW2 Heaven knows what type of aircraft he was flying and as for the proposition he was put under arrest because the local authorities could not understand his Scottish accent
