Easy to read straightforward snappy book that skims across Peter Bleksley's Blex life and work as a police officer and later as an undercover officer within the London Metropolitan police force's SO10 undercover operations unit as described by himselfBlex's undercover operations mostly revolve around infiltrating drugs gangs with the idea of catching them in the act before arresting them The operations he describes are pretty similar get an informant to make an introduction gain the trust andor motivate the greed of the drug dealers and then just as the deal has taken place bring the drug dealers down catching them in the actBlex's role reuires an ability to think and act like a drug dealer often researching his roles and learning about the drugs he has to pretend to purchase and it is this that makes him successful at his job He recalls operations not just from his undercover work relating to a varied scope of the criminal underworld from lesbian sadomasochists to members of the Italian mafia and the many dangers and enjoyment that he has had whilst working as a police officerWhen reading the book Blex comes across as an 'old school' police officer He doesn't like informants but recognises that they are necessary in his job He acknowledges racism and corruption within the police force but he doesn't really go into too many details about itThis is a good read one for sitting on the beach or by the pool or on a train when we can eventually do these things again It's not too detailed or particularly heavy going It just breezes through Blex's life and thoughts about being a detective and an undercover officer without any strainLike I imagine Blex to be this book is straightforward to the point and doesn't mess about If you enjoy reading about police undercover operations British crime and gangsters then you'll probably enjoy this as it is what you'd expect from this type of book All in all a good lightweight read
